Video Editing Process & Timeline
Video editing is a multi-step process that transforms raw footage into a polished, coherent final product. Editing is typically billed by the hour or day, but many clients prefer to know the total cost in advance. That’s why we offer a flat-rate package that includes the following key steps:
Important: To avoid delays or unnecessary revisions, client feedback should come directly from or on behalf of the final decision-maker.
1. Client Brief
We begin with a conversation to define the goals of the video—its purpose, duration, and intended use. We’ll also review relevant logistics such as shoot locations, participants, and scheduling. This is where we ask detailed questions to help clarify what’s possible and align expectations.
2. Rough Cut (RC)
This is the most time-intensive stage. The editor reviews all footage, selects the best moments, and assembles them into a first version of the storyline. At this point, no color correction or audio mixing has been done yet. Placeholder music may be added to give a sense of tone.
Delivery: within 14 working days after the final shoot
Client feedback: focused on content, structure, pacing, and general direction
3. Revision 1 (Rev1)
Based on the client’s feedback, the editor implements structural and content-related changes. This is the point where all elements, such as logos, graphics, lower thirds, and title cards, should be provided by the client.
Please note: After this stage, major content or storyline changes will incur additional charges (typically billed hourly).
Delivery: within 7 working days after feedback and final assets are received
4. Revision 2 (Rev2)
This revision includes the final polish: color grading, audio mixing, titles, transitions, animations, and other visual effects. Minor last-minute tweaks can be made without charge.
Delivery: within 5 working days after feedback is received
Client action: Final approval
5. Final Cut
Once approved, the final version is delivered in the appropriate resolution, codec, and aspect ratio for your target platform (web, social media, broadcast, etc.).
Note: Any additional changes after final delivery will be charged separately.
