Preparing for Your Portrait Session
To help you look and feel your best, here are some simple guidelines for getting great results from your upcoming photo shoot:

Clothing
• Keep it simple and classic: Solid colors photograph best. Avoid busy patterns, logos, or text.
• Fit matters: Choose clothes that fit well and make you feel comfortable. Avoid wrinkles or sagging fabric.
• Avoid extremes: Skip all-white tops and all-black pants—pure white can reflect too much light, and stark contrast doesn’t translate well on camera.
• Material matters: Avoid shiny or reflective fabrics. Cotton or wool works best for jackets.
• Bring options: If unsure, bring two or three tops with different colors or necklines. Pale blue is always a flattering choice for men’s shirts.
• Coordinate, don’t clash: Avoid harsh contrasts between tops and bottoms.
• Ironed and ready: If possible, bring your chosen shirt on a hanger—don’t wear it to work beforehand.
• Dress for comfort: You’ll be sitting in front of the camera for several minutes, so make sure your outfit feels good to wear.

Hair and Makeup
• Keep it natural: Aim for a polished version of your everyday look.
• Light makeup works best: Avoid heavy foundation or powder that may appear cakey under studio lighting.
• Hair touch-ups: Bring a brush or comb. If you’re getting a haircut, do it a few days in advance—not the day of the shoot.
• Optional upgrade: A professional hair and makeup artist can help you look camera-ready and confident.

Skin and Grooming
• Hydrate and moisturize your skin the night before.
• Avoid last-minute treatments like facials or peels right before your session.
• Men: Shave as closely as possible without irritation and double-check for missed spots.
• Glasses: Clean your lenses thoroughly. If you can choose between glasses and contacts, contact lenses are preferred to avoid glare.

Posture and Expression
• Don’t worry—I’ll guide you throughout the session.
• Relax your shoulders, gently elongate your neck, and breathe naturally.
• Think of something that makes you smile—it will come through in your expression.

Timing and Prep
• Arrive on time or slightly early so you’re not rushed.
• Allow extra time if you plan to change outfits or touch up your hair or makeup during the shoot.
• Avoid rushing or sweating right before the session, as that can cause shine on the skin.
• And don’t worry about a last-minute pimple—Photoshop can take care of that.
