A typical headshot session varies depending on how comfortable you feel in front of the camera. My goal is to help you relax and capture your best images, so don’t be surprised if it feels like we’re taking a lot of photos—it’s all part of the process!
Here are some tips to help you prepare for the session:
- Clothing: Choose outfits that make you feel confident and reflect your personality. Avoid patterns like pinstripes, herringbone, or checkers, as they create an unwanted moiré effect that is difficult to retouch. Solid colors photograph best, but steer clear of plain white unless paired with a jacket or layer in a different color.
- Wrinkles: Make sure your clothes are not too wrinkled, as wrinkles can be distracting in the final image.
- Avoid sweating: Try not to rush or sweat for at least 30 minutes before the shoot to minimize any shine on your face or forehead.
- Glasses: If you wear glasses, ensure they are clean. If you have the option, contact lenses are preferred to avoid reflections.
- No chewing gum: Please refrain from chewing gum or having candy in your mouth during the session.
- For Women: Be mindful of how much bare skin is visible below your neck—too much can give the illusion that you’re not wearing anything. A collar or necklace works well to avoid this. Unless a makeup artist has been hired, arrive “camera ready” with makeup you feel comfortable wearing.
- For Men: If you prefer a clean-shaven look, shave the morning of the session, as it’s difficult to retouch facial hair accurately.
- Blemishes: Don’t worry about any last-minute blemishes; we can easily remove them in Photoshop.
